  17. ELSA ANNOUNCES VERSION 1.20 OF ITS WINNER DISPLAY DRIVERS

  19. South San Francisco, CA - ELSA Inc., manufacturer of
  20. German-engineered high performance products for computer graphics
  21. and data communications, today announced that it released the
  22. latest ELSA WINNER display driver, version 1.20, on Nov. 1st,
  23. 1994.

  25. With ELSA's graphics boards WINNER 2000PRO-2, WINNER 2000PRO-4
  26. and WINNER 2000PRO-H, version 1.20 of the driver significantly
  27. speeds up display modes that use 16 bits per pixel (bpp). When
  28. color space "RGB:444/16" is selected, the hardware uses the
  29. internal color representation of the NEXTSTEP window server, thus
  30. eliminating the need for time-consuming software conversion. The
  31. speed gain can amount to 30 % at a resolution of 1600 x 1200.

  33. In addition, ELSA's latest driver generally supports 256 colors
  34. at 8 bpp under NEXTSTEP 3.3 for all WINNER PRO graphics boards.
  35. This means that color is now available in high resolution modes
  36. even for users of the WINNER 1000PRO.

  38. Version 1.20 of the WINNER display driver also supports ELSA's
  39. WINNER 2000PRO-PCI-8, the first graphics board worldwide
  40. featuring 8 MB VRAM and a 250-MHz RAMDAC. It offers 16.7 million
  41. colors with a resolution of 1600 x 1280 pixels at 78 Hz to
  42. NEXTSTEP users.

  44. With ELSA's NEXTSTEP driver, users can conveniently select the
  45. appropriate ELSA WINNER board in a special dialog box called ELSA
  46. WINNER Inspector. Since the default frame buffer allocation is
  47. made board-depending, ELSA WINNER Inspector chooses the default
  48. frame buffer address for the respective board so that users can
  49. just can just plug and play.
